Fighting Food Insecurity in Idaho
YAS IDAHO
Recently our YAS Idaho team partnered with the local foodbank to fight food insecurity in the state of Idaho! Read more below:
"The Idaho Foodbank hosts an annual program that raises money to help students in our community that suffer from food insecurity have access to adequate food over the weekend. In order to do so, they provide these students with a backpack full of nutritious food every Friday during the school year.
In 2018, the East Idaho Foodbank raised enough money to provide 17,500 backpacks in our community at $6.25 per backpack! This year YAS ID was able to raise $4,200 in donations. A donation of $300 will provide a student in our community enough backpacks of food for a whole year."

Marches and Protests
YAS IDAHO
YAS stresses the importance of getting the youth involved and informed on their political environment. Therefore we stress the importance of running, organizing, and supporting protests in our local areas! In fact, YAS was actually started in a Pizza Hut after the founders all met at a March for Our Lives event in Pocatello, Idaho.
Due to our origin story, protests and marches hold a special place in our team's heart! We have also attended and help organize a climate strike at our own Pocatello City Hall! Additionally, after the BLM movement gaining more exposure in the media, rightfully so... our board members helped organize a BLM vigil and protest. The protest took place in Pocatello, Idaho and had a powerful turnout!

Fighting Homelessness in California
YAS CALIFORNIA
YAS California has partnered up with Compass Family Services, a social service organization in San Francisco, to create and donate homelessness kits which will be distributed to local homeless people and families in the Bay Area. The homelessness kits will include clothing (such as socks), water, masks, non-perishable food, wipes, and more. The $600 goal will amount to 100 kits made and distributed to local homeless families and individuals with the help of Compass Family Services.
YAS is raising funds for this project in several ways:
YAS has designed and created activist-themed stickers which can be bought on Redbubble and will be linked here.
YAS has also partnered up with JumanjiBracelets to create and sell a specialized keychain via Etsy, the link to also buy this keychain will be here.
YAS has also made a Gofundme, here, and will receive any amount of donations. 100% of the sales and donations from these platforms will go towards the homelessness service kit project.
To follow the journey and to get more involved please check out YAS CA's instagram (@yascalifornia) and link tree linked here. Thank you for your donation/purchase!

Oil Pipeline Protest
YAS Michigan
In July of 2020, our YAS Michigan team organized a youth-led protest to shut down Oil Pipeline 5. Implemented, Line 5 poses a threat to the climate and water source for citizens of Michigan.
The team organized a demonstration at a local park, Covid-19 safe of course, which initiated change and brought out community support.
In mid-November, YAS MI's initiative was deemed successful as the government recently revoked Line 5. Go YAS MI!
